Dr Mamphela Ramphele has had a celebrated career as an activist, medical doctor, academic, businesswoman and political thinker.  Well known for cofounding Black Consciousness with Steve Biko in South Africa, she was one of only 4 Managing Directors of World Bank, stood for South African Presidential election in 2014, is a trustee of Nelson Mandela Foundation, and member of Club of Rome.

Above all she is a humanitarian and activist for societal change. We talk about creating an abundant mindset by reconnecting to what we value as human connection and to our environment. That healing racial tension comes form acknowledgement, forgiveness, looking each other directly and creating a new value system.

Talking Points:

  • explaining Ubuntu - interconnectedness, interdependence and connection to the environment - stewardship of our resources, “we have the capacity to make choices and to take responsibility for the choices we make” - live the life that allows us to leave the world in a better place than you found and at least don’t mess up

  • discussing the role of Government today, "we expect them to do things they are not set up to do"

  • the concept of colour coding benefiting the few at the expense of the many

  • how to start the process of healing, the difference between a conversation and an agenda, the process of healing a wounded nation, (18)

  • women as central figures in the community - how migrant labour destroyed families and dehumanised men

"if we want to reimagine community we must start with the family and help the men who have lost their humanity"

- discussing westernisation, Western people see themselves as beings superior and we need to starts to question those assumptions as a human race - science but originated in Africa, discussing abundance, shifting from scarcity to abundance, when we shift to abundance we no longer need to consume as much - sustainability, we can share without feeling we are losing, and everybody has enough (45)

  • discussing Covid the reset is about prioritising wellbeing of people and planet

  • how missionaries damaged Africa and indigenous people, "our relationship is a god who loves not punishes" (53)

  • discussing Reimagine South Africa in 2016 after her South African Presidential bid in 2014

  • discussing traditional healing “you know that tomorrow is going to be better than yesterday”  61

"fear paralyses it does not help you, identify what makes you fearful and once you unmask it is just ordinary"

  • discussing her role in the The Club of Rome - need for new human civilisation, "not what is valuable but what is of value", see abundance not scarcity that is the where magic happens

  • rethink finance as a tool of exchange - reimagining a new human civilisation, pointing healing circles - how to emerge form emergency

  • the difference between logic and heart (78)

SIR TIM SMIT - FOUNDER EDEN PROJECT

“I love your thinking, this is a great interview….we have never been asked that on a podcast before""

DR GLEB TSIPURSKY - ENTREPRENEUR, AUTHOR

“I had the honor of going on the Ed Andrew's podcast, as well as interviewing him on the Humans 2.0 podcast. Ed has the ability to penetrate an individual's perceptual apparatus to give them a glimpse of who THEY REALLY ARE which is a 21st-century superpower. I highly recommend checking out Ed's show and his consulting services"

MARK METRY - HOST HUMANS 2.0

“I have been interviewed on a number of podcasts recently and been intrigued by the different approaches the interviewers take. Some view it as a conversation, others an interrogation. This interview with Ed Andrew was definitely one of the more enjoyable ones!"
